How Much Everbrite or ProtectaClear Do I Need?

What materials do I need for my restoration project?

For painted metal or unpainted metal that is outside like siding, roofs, copper roofs, sculptures, painted gutters, copper gutters, weathervanes, window frames or other painted or exterior metals, you will need Everbrite Protective Coating to restore and protect the metal. Everbrite is recommended for these because of the extra U.V. protection. You will first need to clean the metal and neutralize any acid based cleaners that may have been used.  The metal must be clean and completely dry before application of the coating. Most metals need 2 coats of Everbrite but some porous metals like steel will need 3 or 4 coats.

For metal that will be handled frequently like jewelrydoor handles, sinks or countertops ProtectaClear is recommended. ProtectaClear is also recommended for stainless steel and mirror polished metals because it is thin and crystal clear and will not detract from the shine of the metal. ProtectaClear is tough and durable and has excellent adhesion to even highly polished metal.

Everbrite Coatings are very economical because of the excellent coverage. Everbrite Coatings will cover about 1000 square feet at .5 mil wet film thickness. Two coats are recommended for most metals. It protects very well at this thickness and will still be able to expand and contract with the substrate. Everbrite Coatings have an indefinite shelf life in a closed container so if you have some left over, you will still be able to use it in the future.

You can purchase Everbrite Coatings in 5 Gal. cans, Gallons, Quarts, Pints and 4 oz. cans. Everbrite coatings are also available in aerosol cans for hard to reach places or for touchup.

HOW TO FIGURE SQUARE FOOTAGE OF SIDING

The best way to figure how much you need is to figure out one wall at a time. Multiply the width by the height. If the wall is 60 feet long and is 10 feet tall, that is 600 feet. If the front of your home is 24 feet by 10 feet, that is 240 feet. Add 2 walls of 600 feet and 2 walls of 240 feet minus window space. The total wall space would be 1480 square feet minus an average of 300 sq. ft. of window space.

You can also refinish garage doors, sheds, awnings, railings, window extrusions, and many other items. Wood siding or repainted surfaces tend to use more, so you may want to purchase a little extra.
