How to Restore & Protect Copper from Tarnish
Tarnish makes your beautiful copper look like old brown metal.
We have Restoration Kits that restore old copper & keep new copper looking great for years. You will Love Your Copper again!
Love the warm glow of copper? Copper is a fantastic way to add character and beauty to your property, inside and out. You love the warm glow of the metal on your home. Unfortunately, copper tarnishes and copper with patina fades and spots. Polishing over and over again is impractical. Our coatings can save your copper surfaces and make them look brand new again.
For architectural copper, use our Everbrite Coating as it has UV blockers to protect from sun damage and weathering and is an excellent copper protector. Use Everbrite for copper roofs, copper gutters, copper deck accents, copper art and sculptures, weathervanes, copper mailboxes and other architectural copper.
For copper that is high-use or high-touch, we recommend our ProtectaClear or CrobialCoat, as these coatings are more scratch-resistant. Use for copper sinks, copper counters, copper jewelry, copper railings, mirror polished copper and other copper that gets a lot of use and abuse.
Our CrobialCoat, with Microban technology, will simultaneously reduce the spread of microbes while protecting the metal as well. Use CrobialCoat for surfaces where germ buildup is a concern. Copper sinks, faucets, counters and other surfaces that are high-touch.
Use on copper roofs, gutters, weathervanes, cupolas, and on high-use copper like sinks, backsplashes, counters, kitchen hoods and more— our coatings will protect it all.
1. If you want to protect your copper while it is still new and shiny, clean any oil or other contaminants from the metal. This can be done by simply wiping the metal with a solvent cleaner like xylene or denatured alcohol which can be purchased at most hardware or paint stores. The solvents will not remove tarnish, patina or dark fingerprints. These will need to be polished off of the surface. ***TIP: Use gloves to handle new copper before it is sealed or you can end up with dark fingerprints on the copper.
2. Once the metal is clean, Everbrite™, ProtectaClear®, or CrobialCoat® can be applied by several methods. It can be sprayed on or wiped on the surface with clear-coat applicators, fine brushes, poly-sponge brushes or a pad of lint-free white cloth. Let it dry and enjoy your beautiful copper weather vane, cupola, finial, copper gutters, copper rain chains, wind chimes and more!
